Just in time for the Kentucky Derby!  This decadent pie will have your guests racing for the dessert table.

2 – 9” Deep dish, pie shells
1 1/2 C Pecan pieces
3/4 C Walnut pieces
1 C Semi Sweet chocolate morsels or chunks
6 Eggs, fresh extra large
2 C Sugar, granulated
2 C Karo Syrup, dark
1/4 C Bourbon, premium
3/4 C Butter, melted & cooled slightly
1 tsp Salt
2 tsp Vanilla extract, pure
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Thaw and crimp shells.

Evenly distribute the nuts and chocolate in the shells. Layering works well.

Beat eggs until just smooth, not frothy.  Add remaining ingredients and mix well until you have a smooth custard.

Evenly distribute the custard over the nuts and chocolate in the pie crusts.

Bake on sheet pan in  375 degree oven for 15 minutes.  Turn heat down while pies are in oven to 325 degrees and bake at least 35 minutes until set.

Cool before slicing.

Top with whipped cream or ice cream……….or nothing at all.  Very rich & delicious!
