The Amish custom cabinetry is made of hard maple and finished in Autumn Wheat stain with a warm glaze. The light, contrasting granite, is Bianco Antico.

This service area is dual purposed as it straddles the space between the kitchen and dining rooms. One side is being utilized as a central hub for mail, school schedules and the like. The other side has a deep, rollout interior drawer for adult beverage storage, and the upper cabinets house classic bar accoutrements.

The deep toned wood floors add a nice contrast to the mid tone cabinetry. Directly ahead we can see a not-so-lazy susan in the corner and plenty of cabinets with roll out shelves. The drawer storage on the island keeps everything handy. A garbage roll out is positioned in a convenient location to help keep things tidy.

The stainless steel, chimney style hood allowed plenty of wall space for tile to climb to the ceiling. The backsplash is simple and stylish crackled white sand ceramic subway tile by Ceramic Tiles International. The tile was installed in a herringbone pattern behind the range and hood for additional interest.

Another design choice that adds character is the staggered depth perimeter cabinetry. Beginning at the refrigerator, the depth is greater to give the appliance a built in feeling, then staggers to the depth needed for a mircrowave and finally to the standard depth of the perimeter wall cabinets.

The footprint of this kitchen really works for the homeowner so there was no need to update the 1990s floorplan. But it lacked panache, bells and whistles. The parents of the homeowners had worked with River Oak Cabinetry on a beautiful remodel of their own, so when it was time for their daughter and son in law to take their kitchen to the next level, they knew who to call. We increased the storage by eliminating the perimeter soffits, added a breakfast bar and optimized the new cabinetry with roll out shelving, vertical dividers and soft close doors and drawers.
