With soffits removed, painted white maple cabinetry reaches the ceiling. This is extra storage space, plus looks great. The wood tones bounce about nicely with the rift cut oak on the peninsula back and custom hood.

The work triangle of this kitchen is roomy enough for multiple people at once. The microwave found a new home in the peninsula and is accessible without entering the cooking space. Originally, the microwave was mounted above the range.

The soffits were removed around the entire kitchen. This provided more storage on the wall housing the refrigerator. The tall pantry cabinet is outfitted with roll out shelves for easy accessibility. A spice rollout to the right of the range houses spices and various ingredients. The planning desk was replaced by more cabinetry, thus more storage, including an appliance garage with a roll out shelf for the coffee machines.

The wood used on the peninsula front is rift cut white oak. This was a product very fashionable in furniture making in the 1900s. It is steadily making a comeback due to it's linear pattern, durability and natural color attributes.

A custom hood makes a wonderful focal point in an open kitchen concept. Here we see the backsplash tile in an artistic finish subway style with a contrasting mosaic, also in white, but offering a different texture. The rift cut white oak feature adds interest and warmth to a mostly white design.

This kitchen remodeling project on the north side of Naperville’s Brookdale neighborhood is home to a very busy family. A reinvention of their dark and dated kitchen with updates to an adjacent laundry/mudroom was made with very specific storage zones in mind. The footprint didn’t change much, they always had a U-shaped kitchen with a peninsula. The ‘heavy wall’ where the refrigerator is located had the rarely used feature of a planning desk. Dark cherry cabinets were replaced with white cabinetry and wood tones added in the way of a white oak accent on the custom hood and peninsula. Light quartz counters keep the brightness level up with grey veining movement.
